Lloyd Blakley began his career in art at the University of California, Santa Barbara (USCB), where he received his MFA in Painting and Drawing in 1971. He continued his fine art studies at the Academie Royale Des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, Belgium. He has taught at the Whatcom County College and Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. The Foster/White Gallery has represented Blakley since 1985. Since then, he has taken part in many successful solo shows and his work is included in public and corporate collections in Washington and across the United States.

Blakley’s past work is reminiscent of the abstract expressionists and draws on the tradition of landscape painting. Blakley creates a dialogue on the struggle of the human condition with his energetic and gestural lines and focus on materials. Over the years he has softened his style, yet continues to draw from the viewer's experience to create emotional atmosphere in his abstract landscapes.
