Christopher Cousins was born in New York City. His work is greatly influenced by American Indian culture and art and the religious fervor of Medieval and Renaissance art. His textural, abstract works are created purely by instinct. Cousins begins his paintings by taking found materials (I.e. twigs, leaves, string) and attaching them to the canvas to create textural support underneath his oil painting. His works evoke an organic, naturally evolving, and perhaps chaotic environment; they are fields of action in which he struggles to perceive the transcendental.

Cousins received his BFA from Boston University in 1983. Since 2000, he has participated in exhibitions in California and Florida. In 2005, Cousins had his first international exhibition in Venice, Italy.
