Darby has received praise for his energetic, colorful, and dynamic work. The California native studied at the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle where he received his BFA in 1994. Darby has had numerous solo and group exhibitions on the West Coast.
The initial exuberance of Darby’s work is strung with a slight cynicism and social commentary about the state of our world today. With humor, satire, and an innate need to create, Darby is dedicated to sharing his art. His work has been featured in several publications including, Art in America, Dwell Magazine, Seattle Times and the San Diego Tribune.
Darby’s innovative use of acrylic paint has taken the medium to an exciting new level. After applying large washes of color the artist begins to create texture with his signature technique. Hand created molds give shape and life to whimsical figures and objects that glide through Darby’s compositions. The result is a vibrant and texturally diverse painting that amuses and intrigues.
