Dale Lindman received his BA in Comprehensive Art in 1974 and his MA in Painting in 1975 from Saint Cloud State University in Minnesota. He went on to get his MFA in Painting in 1982 from University of Washington. Lindman has taught at Pratt Fine Arts Center, University of Washington, Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and is currently teaching at Bellevue Community College.
Lindman’s faith in his materials is “hopelessly romantic,” and specific media is essential to his art. The encaustic method that the artist used earlier in his career has evolved into a process that combines acrylics, dry pigment, urethane, and glass micro beads layered on wood. This particular combination of media allows Lindman to create textures, cracks, and compositions reminiscent of the earth’s surface. The squares of smooth atmosphere are contrasted with horizons of rusty texture, constructing dualism between surfaces. Although sometimes subdued, Lindman’s chosen colors hold a startling range and variety. Not foggy or dreary, the neutral colors of the Pacific Northwest take on a bold yet delicate presence.
Dale Lindman’s work can be found in numerous public collections in Seattle, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Chicago. He has exhibited with the Foster/White Gallery since 1995.
